Who is Smerd?

Smerd's symbiotic host-partner is sixteen-year-old Mary Woods, a St. Louis County teenager who attends Whitmore High School. Mary is secretly a speedy super-heroine known as Velocity Girl. On a recent adventure that took her into outer space, chronicled in "Velocity Girl and the Shadowfox, Vol. 3: Shadows of Destiny" (to be released Spring 2008), Mary encountered the loveable little purple guy who promptly selected her to be his new host.

Upon returning to Earth, Mary finds that Smerd, though lovable, adds yet more complication to her already hectic life. She was already juggling the varied demands of going to high school, having a teenage social life (including dating), secretly being a super-hero, and intensely training her abilities under the tutelage of her mentor, Shadowfox.
